What We’re Reading:
- WIAO revamp needed to boost employer-led training – Community College Daily
- At a March 4 hearing of a House Education and Workforce subcommittee, witnesses and legislators made it clear that updating WIOA and investing in other programs that support employer-led training can help the nation close workforce shortages in technical industries and prepare an AI-ready workforce. “The economy looks very different than it did when WIOA was first reauthorized in 2014,” said Rep. Burgess Owens (R-Utah), chair of the Higher Education and Workforce Development Subcommittee. “We have to ask whether the system we built more than a decade ago is equipped for the economy we have today.”
- From the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland: The Fourth District Beige Book is now available. The Beige Book is a Federal Reserve System publication about current economic conditions across the 12 Federal Reserve Districts.
- From Brookings: Startup costs and confusion are stalling apprenticeships in the US. Here’s how to fix it.
- New Cleveland Fed study examines unemployment trends for high school and college graduates: A new Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland study explores whether young college graduates are losing their competitive edge in the modern job market, with potential implications for employers’ recruitment strategies and workforce development. The research may help your organization better understand the evolving landscape of talent acquisition in our changing economy. The Bank also invites the public to a virtual Fed Talk conversation on these topics on March 20.
