Why are you passionate about the Workforce Council and our work?

“I’m passionate about the Workforce Council because its mission sits at the intersection of people, opportunity, and business impact, which is exactly where meaningful change happens. I grew up in Walnut Hills and as a teenager was part of the Citizens Committee on Youth program, which supported at-risk youth through mentorship and provided opportunities for young people to have jobs and think bigger than their everyday lives they were living.  If I didn’t have that opportunity, I could have very well been another statistic.

“The work of the Workforce Council matters because it focuses on building pathways as well, not just filling jobs. It helps people gain the skills, confidence, and access they need to succeed, while also helping employers develop sustainable, skilled talent pipelines. That balance—supporting people while strengthening businesses—is something I deeply believe in.”

What was your first job?

“My first job at 16 years old was at Roy Rogers in Walnut Hills, where I worked the salad bar, ensuring that it was fresh and clean for customers when they came into the restaurant.

“That early experience shaped my work ethic and reinforced the importance of taking ownership, understanding how individual roles impact the broader organization, and delivering quality even in foundational positions. Those principles have stayed with me throughout my career and continue to influence how I lead and set expectations today.”

What piece of professional advice have you received that has stayed with you throughout your career?

“One piece of professional advice that has stayed with me throughout my career is simple, but incredibly powerful: ‘Never be in the boat alone.’ While the phrase is metaphorical, its meaning has proven to be very practical and deeply relevant in every leadership role I’ve held.

“To me, this advice speaks to the importance of shared responsibility, collaboration, and perspective. Being ‘in the boat’ represents navigating challenges, making decisions, and moving through uncertainty. Being alone in that boat—whether as a leader, decision-maker, or professional—can lead to blind spots, unnecessary risk, and burnout. The advice reminds me that no matter how capable or experienced I think I am, I should never isolate myself when it comes to important work.

“As I moved into leadership roles, the meaning evolved. ‘Never be in the boat alone’ also became about accountability and trust. Including others ensures transparency and shared ownership, especially when navigating difficult conversations, performance decisions, or organizational change. It reinforces that leadership is not about carrying everything yourself, but about building strong partnerships and empowering others to contribute.”
